TNI, Polri agree to bolster synergy to secure general elections

Gumilar underlined that synergy is of the utmost importance to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the general elections.

The Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) have agreed to strengthen synergy, starting from the lowest level to the highest, particularly amid the process of the 2024 General Elections.

The agreement was forged during a meeting between head of the TNI Information Center, Brigadier General Nugraha Gumilar, and the head of Polri's public relations division, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, in Jakarta on Thursday.

Gumilar underlined that synergy is of the utmost importance to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the general elections.

He expressed optimism that optimal security efforts made by TNI and Polri would help ensure that the elections take place with joyful energy.

"The Indonesian nation has passed the hardest time of COVID-19 well, and it will become a reference to be even better," he remarked.

He lauded the readiness of human resources, facilities, and infrastructure at Polri's public relations division, supported by integrated technology.

He also expressed his appreciation for the public relations function carried out by the division for 72 years, particularly programs conducted under the leadership of Inspector General Nugroho.

He stressed that TNI and Polri are always open to criticism to improve their public services.

"I see that the performance of the TNI-Polri at the lower level has been present together with the community to ensure that we are here to help in terms of safety and security in national and social life," he said.

Meanwhile, Nugroho noted that amid the challenges and developments of information technology, Polri's public relations division is making efforts to carry out digital-based programs.

"For 72 years, Polri's public relations division has continued to create various innovations to balance the rapid development of information technology," he said.

He expressed the hope that going forward, Polri's public relations division and the TNI Information Center will continue to synergize to provide information and education to the community.

Indonesia will hold the 2024 General Elections on February 14, 2024, in which around 204.8 million voters are expected to participate. The campaigning period for the elections started on November 28, 2023, and will end on February 10, 2024.
