President director of the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan), Ali Ghufron Mukti, has assured that his side will bear the cost of health services for ailing electoral officials, in keeping with regulations.
"As long as they are registered as active participants in the National Health Insurance (JKN), then we will fully bear the cost of treatment according to the procedure," Mukti said here on Saturday.
He made the statement in response to ad hoc data from the General Elections Commission (KPU) showing that there are thousands of unwell electoral officers, and some have even died.
KPU data showed that at least 35 electoral officers have died as of Friday (February 16, 2024).
Mukti said that BPJS Kesehatan, along with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the KPU, the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), and in coordination with the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), has tried to ensure that all electoral officials are registered for JKN.
If they are registered for JKN, ailing officers can receive health treatment, with the cost of the treatment covered by BPJS Kesehatan.
Mukti said that his side had intensified the screening of the medical history of electoral officials before the election began.
According to him, the screening was carried out not only to anticipate potential health risks to the officers while on duty, but also as a preventive measure to ensure their welfare during the election process.
"By undergoing medical history screening before doing their duties, electoral officials can know their health condition better and be optimal in carrying out their duties," he said.
BPJS Kesehatan has also prepared a dashboard monitoring the medical history screening of electoral officers. KPU, Bawaslu, the Ministry of Home Affairs, KSP, and the public can access the dashboard on the BPJS Kesehatan website.
