The General Elections Commission (KPU) of Maluku Province is using a military helicopter to distribute logistics required for the 2024 General Elections to six remote villages in North Seram, Central Maluku District.

According to Maluku KPU Chairperson Rifan Kubangun, MI-17 helicopter of the Indonesian Air Force had been delivering the logistics to the villages of Kaloa, Elemata, Kanike, Hatuolo, Manusela, and Maraina, since Saturday (February 10).

"There are a total of seven polling stations in the six villages, with Manusela Village hosting two of them," he remarked in Ambon on Monday.

He noted that the six villages in North Seram Sub-district fall in the category of remote regions that are inaccessible by conventional means of transport, thereby prompting the KPU to coordinate with the Air Force to distribute the logistics.

"It would take four to five days to deliver the election logistics to those areas if we decided to carry them on our shoulders. Hence, we opted for helicopters, so that the logistics can arrive within one hour," he explained.

Kubangun further noted that the KPU is also collaborating with the Indonesian Navy to send the logistics to coastal villages.

The Maluku KPU chairperson stated that the Indonesian Navy is deploying its ships to assist the KPU in sending the logistics to coastal areas in five districts, namely Southwest Maluku, Tanimbar Islands, Aru Islands, Central Maluku, and East Seram.

According to Kubangun, the Navy is assigning the Teluk Wondama Ship to Southwest Maluku, Pulau Trangan Ship to Aru Islands and East Seram, and Hatahilar Ship to Tanimbar Islands.

"We are being assisted by the ships of the Indonesian Navy in distributing the logistics. Currently, the logistics have arrived at the sub-district level and will be transported to polling stations in villages," he concluded.
