Head of Public Relations at the National Police (Polri), Police Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, appealed to all Indonesians on Sunday to maintain unity ahead of the election day on February 14.

"To all people, let us join hands and strengthen the unity in diversity values while waiting for the election of a new national leader and the people's new representatives," he said in a statement from Polri.

Nugroho emphasized that Polri, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and all components of the nation, is ready to maintain the security of the election process until the end.

He noted that Polri had been given the responsibility to ensure the 2024 General Elections are held safely, peacefully, and with dignity.

He further said that security and public order in the country have been conducive due to good collaboration and coordination with all elements of society.

To this end, he appealed to everyone to continue to maintain unity to jointly create serenity and a conducive state ahead of election day until the new leader and legislators are chosen.

Nugroho affirmed that Polri and regional police offices have taken anticipatory measures to ensure security in regions that are prone to issues related to security and public order as well as geographical issues.

He stated that Polri had mapped out the potential of those issues through Operation Mantap Brata 2024.

"Operation Mantap Brata prioritizes preemptive and preventative measures," he remarked.

In addition, Polri is also present in the community through security and public order officers and patrols.

"We also cooperate with all stakeholders, such as the TNI, regional governments, and the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), including all elements of society," he added.

He expressed his gratitude to people who have conveyed their criticisms and suggestions to Polri to help secure the 2024 General Elections.

Around 204.8 million voters are expected to elect their president and vice president, as well as members of the House of Representatives (DPR), Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and Regional Legislative Councils (DPRD) at the provincial, city, and district levels.
