The participation rate of Indonesian citizens (WNI) casting their vote for the presidential election using the mobile ballot box (KSK) in Izmir, Turkey, on Thursday (February 8), reached 109 percent, according to the Ankara Overseas Election Committee (PPLN).
Based on data from the election committee, some 167 Indonesian citizens are registered on the Permanent Overseas Voter List (DPTLN) using the KSK method in Izmir City.
"Most of them are students studying at Ege University and Dokuz Eylul University, which are two leading universities in Turkey. Since morning, they started to vote," chairman of Ankara PPLN, Adi Sutrisno, noted in his statement.
Moreover, Sutrisno said that this election implementation received great attention from the local government.
Izmir Deputy Governor Ismail Corumluoglu directly visited the venue to review the election.
In his discussion with Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Achmad Rizal Purnama, Corumluoglu said he was amazed by the implementation of the Indonesian elections that were run entirely by students.
He also stated that the election arrangements were planned well.
"The implementation of this election reflects the capacity of Indonesian students in Turkey to become leaders in Indonesia in the future," he remarked.
In addition, the Turkish National Police helped secure the implementation of the Indonesian elections in various cities in Turkey.
"The Indonesian representative in Turkey worked with election organizers in Turkey and the local government to realize a fair, honest, and transparent election," Ambassador Purnama stated.
Overall, the Indonesian election participation rate in Turkey has reached 71 percent based on voting at three locations, namely KSK 001 in Antalya, KSK 002 in Kutahya, and KSK 001 in Izmir.
The series of elections in Turkey will still take place in several other cities, namely the KSK in Bursa on February 9, 2024, and in three locations with the Overseas Polling Booth (TPSLN) method, namely in Ankara, Istanbul, and Sakarya on February 11, 2024.
Some 6,161 Indonesian citizens are listed on DPTLN in Turkey. Most of them are high school, undergraduate, and doctoral students and also couples married to Turkish citizens, spa therapists, and expatriates.
