The Health Ministry emphasized the importance of voting organizing team (KPPS) members maintaining their health while conducting their duties during the 2024 General Election.

The ministry's Director of Health for the Productive Age and Elderly, Nida Rohmawati, explained here on Monday that the KPPS members need to get sufficient sleep, stay amply hydrated and eat well, as well as get adequate exercise.

"The first is getting enough sleep, at least six to eight hours a day. Currently, they are already busy and stay up late too. (They are) preparing the place and the ballot paper," Rohmawati stated during the "KemenCast episode 62" podcast, with the topic of "Health Sector Readiness in the 2024 Election."

According to Rohmawati, KPPS members should not stay up late or be sleep-deprived for days before the election.

She advised KPPS members to sleep for at least eight hours before the election is held.

Rohmawati then reminded KPPS members to drink enough water and reduce their intake of coffee, sweetened drinks, and alcoholic beverages.

"(It is) because dehydration was a risk factor for (KPPS members) being ill and dying five years ago. We hope they do not forget to drink water. Drink less coffee and sweetened packaged drinks," she stressed.

Rohmawati explained that based on analysis conducted by the University of Indonesia's Faculty of Medicine, KPPS officers tend to drink less water but consume more coffee and energy drinks in order to feel active while counting votes.

She also urged them to ensure consuming enough meals and not just snacks. Lastly, she called on all local health centers (puskesmas) to hold exercise sessions with the election organizing team members.

The voting day is scheduled on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, when the presidential and legislative elections will be held simultaneously.
