The General Elections Commission (KPU) said here on Friday that it has given Garuda TV, in addition to the MNC Group, the broadcasting rights to air the third presidential debate scheduled on Sunday.

KPU chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari informed that the addition of Garuda TV as one of the broadcasters who will show the third debate was based on inputs from various parties, especially the teams of the three pairs of presidential-vice presidential candidates.

"KPU as an election organizer responds to various inputs from various parties, especially the candidate winning teams, hence, there was a change in the composition of the broadcasters," Asy'ari said.

He added that the decision to allow one more television station to broadcast the debate had passed a series of discussions and considerations, both with the candidate teams and the MNC Group, which was originally the only TV station selected to broadcast the third debate.

Earlier on Wednesday (January 3), secretary of the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team (TKN), Nusron Wahid, informed that TKN had sent a letter to the KPU objecting to the granting of broadcasting rights for the third debate to the MNC Group alone.

On a separate occasion, vice presidential candidate Muhaimin Iskandar also asked the KPU to make sure that the private television station that holds the broadcasting rights of the third debate is a party that can maintain its independence.

With the latest change, the third debate at Istora Senayan on January 7 will be aired by Garuda TV and MNC Group networks, which comprise MNC TV, RCTI, Global TV, and iNews TV starting 7 p.m. local time.

The third debate will cover the themes of defense, security, international relations, globalization, geopolitics, and foreign policy.
