Security situation remains under control: Jokowi

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has ensured that the security situation remains under control and asked the public to not worry.

"The situation is still under control. People do not need to worry. Let us knit back our unity, brotherhood, and harmony as Indonesia is our home together," President Jokowi) said at a press conference at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

President Joko Widodo was accompanied by Vice President Jusuf Kalla and a number of ministers and officials namely National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, Coordinating Minister for Political, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Secretary Minister Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko.

Before giving a press statement, President Jokowi held a meeting with the officials, who briefed him about the current situation.

"Election is only an event from Indonesian state's long journey, and as the head of state and head of government I have an obligation to maintain political and security stability," he said.

After giving a press statement, the president then held another meeting with officials at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.

The former Jakarta Governor immediately left for Jakarta when he received reports of clashes in several areas of Jakarta.
