The 2019 simultaneous election with ballots for five electoral groups will not be held again because it is ineffective and out of capacity, the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia has stated.
"Once is enough for such a general election. By including five ballots or five electoral groups, it has been proven that, at least, this time it has exceeded capacity," Commissioner Viryan Aziz announced at the KPU building, here, Tuesday.
In the future, there should be separate elections for the electoral groups of president and vice-president, House of Representatives (DPR) members, and Regional Representative Council (DPD) members, and local elections with two choices.
The two choices for local elections are to select members of the provincial DPR and regency/city DPR, governors, mayors and regents combined into one and divided into provincial and district /city levels.
"Surely this needs a deeper study," Aziz said.
The election should not be seen separately from the regional election, but it is time for the election to be considered an election regime, according to him.
In this regard, the regulations that are prepared should be studied to see how many elections can be conducted simultaneously, he suggested.
Now that the election was over, he asked the DPR and the government to evaluate the technical regulations for elections and regional elections.
