The observation of Indonesia's 2024 General Elections by parliaments of friendly countries is consistent with an agreement reached within the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani stated.
In a statement received from DPR in Jakarta on Tuesday, she explained that the agreement encourages election-holding countries to invite members of parliaments in Southeast Asia to observe the elections through the Election Visit Program.
"In its diplomatic role, the DPR would like to invite parliaments of friendly countries as well as international parliamentary organizations to directly observe the implementation of Indonesia's 2024 General Elections on February 13-14, 2024," she stated.
Maharani made the statement in her closing speech for DPR's Session III of the 2023-2024 Period in Jakarta on February 6.
The speaker noted that by inviting foreign legislators as observers, Indonesia would be able to ensure its transparency and accountability during the voting and vote-counting stages of the upcoming elections.

At least 19 friendly countries and three international parliamentary organizations have confirmed their willingness to observe the 2024 General Elections.
According to the plan, foreign observers will have the opportunity to directly observe the stages of voting and vote counting at three locations in Bali Province, namely Panglipuran Village, Jimbaran area, and Garuda Wisnu Kencana area.
The General Elections Commissions (KPU) has also extended its invitation to friendly countries to witness the holding of the elections at several polling stations through the Indonesia Election Visit Program.
"This program will provide various parties the opportunity to follow developments in the holding of general elections in Indonesia," KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari remarked in Jakarta on Monday (February 12).
