Successful simultaneous elections prove democratic progress: MPR

Speaker of People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Bambang Soesatyo said that Indonesia's success in holding the 2019 simultaneous presidential and regional head elections became evidence of Indonesia's democratic progress.

"The Indonesian people must feel grateful for their success in holding the 2019 simultaneous elections," Bambang Soesatyo said when opening the inauguration ceremony for the elected President and Vice President for the 2019-2024 period at the parliament building on Sunday.

The success proved that Indonesia had a unique democracy, namely Pancasila Democracy in caring for the diversity existing in the country.

The typical democracy of Pancasila was an expression in the form of Indonesia's dream house, the Pancasila house.

Bambang Soesatyo said that the success of holding the simultaneous elections was a victory for the people of Indonesia.

"The people must be a winner in every competition," he said.

In his political speech, he thanked the General Election Commission (KPU), The Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), The Elections Organization Ethics Council (DKPP), The National Police (Polri), The Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), political parties and other institutions.

The inauguration of Joko Widodo as President and Ma'ruf Amin as Vice President for the 2019-2024 period was attended by a number of figures such as Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Megawati Soekarno Putri, Hamzah Has, Boediono and others.
